Micai and Kael began their journey as is typical of millennial gays: online*. Kael flew all the way to Utqiagvik, Alaska to see Micai, where they had their first date in 2019 in the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital cafeteria.

Micai's loving mom commandeered the date (in her defense, she didn't know that's what they were doing) and gave Kael a behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital Micai worked at. Luckily, she stated afterward that she was very impressed with Kael.

Micai and Kael shared their first kiss on the beach close to Micai's home in Utqiagvik. Two days later, Micai, like any good girl with a crush, asked Kael to be his boyfriend.

Two months later, Kael took a very brave trip to meet Micai's family for the annual Nethercott Thanksgiving festivities. Not only did he survive, he fit right in with the Nethercott family.

A year after their first day as official boyfriends, Kael imported Micai down to Anchorage after they bought a house together. They have been learning and growing together ever since, making their house a home with their three beautiful, wonderful children (dogs).

Micai proposed to Kael in their living room on a chilly February day, much to Kael's surprise, horror, and joy. Kael had previously told Micai that if he proposed in public, he would simply walk out.

Thankfully, the living room was sufficiently private and Kael said yes. Their friend Faith hid behind their couch to document the occasion.

Micai and Kael were civilly married that September in their dining room.
